You've said in this video a few times that you wanted to get the quartz version of a grand Seiko. You can't get away from the fact that a spring drive at its heart is a quartz. Seiko spring drives are very expensive quartz watches. I liked your video though. 👍👍👍👍

I just tried these on the other day. I agree with the balance and proportions being great. For my taste I would want this as a 42 or 43 I think.

You're absolutely correct Sam. South Australia and the Northern Territory have half hour time zones. In Sydney now it's 11.10am and in SA and NT, it's 10.40am. The Jack Mason's look amazing.

Regarding the LEs: just because they don't sell out fast doesn't mean it's not profitable. Regarding the insurance, Chubb is the actual insurer, it's just Hodinkee branded. So it's probably almost no cost to them, and who knows what their cut is. But broadly I could see branded services making money. I have no idea how scalable that is.

I've been looking to buy my first Grand Seiko. I find it really irritating that you constantly grouped Grand Seiko with Seiko period they are two completely different companies. You got so bad and I got so irritated that I couldn't finish the video

A worthy competitor to the Christopher Ward C60 300 GMTs. The Jack Mason design is a bit clumsier in my opinion but it has the traveller GMT function which some prefer even though they are a pain to set. That orange GMT on the green version has a very familiar colour. That orange cream-sicle colour gets everywhere and is a bit wishy washy. I'd prefer a red GMT hand and a line of red text on the silver dial too.

Interesting conversation. I think HODINKEE alienated their core audience when they shifted to mostly extremely high end watches with a clear intent to become a brand ambassador rather than provide any watch journalism. It felt like a pure cash grab. The only way they may be able to save it is for Ben to be much more upfront about the mistakes made, a genuine heart felt mea culpa. Then follow this up with great content, interviews with popular people in the watch space and not just luxury brand CEOs.

I love mine. Thought my first click on the crown to change date was bugged. You twist towards you and it's about two revolutions to change the date ha.

I just received their Strat-o-timer USA limited edition. It does have the silver indices and hands against that silvery white dial, so the hands can get lost a little in certain light. It is a design choice in this instance though. The lume is absolutely fantastic. Even 40 minutes later when I was walking my dog at night it was very very legible. The bracelet is fantastic, and I love the tropic strap (plus quick release for all of them). The Texas star/Jack Mason logo that latches into the end keeper just goes to show how much thought went into the watch. I hate when my keepers either go to far or move back toward the clasp too much. Not having to adjust that throughout the day is a relief. The watch is also very comfortable on wrist, as mentioned. I think the only criticism I could muster is the hands could be a touch wider (great lume though), and possibly either a different lume color or slight design difference on the 12 o'clock marker for quicker orientation at a glance. That's being nitpicky when they get so much right that others miss.

I’ve had a lot of micro brands and under $1k my Jack Mason Hydrotimer is the best of the best. Don’t just compare specs, the fit, finish and on wrist feel is unmatched. The only thing that compares to it in my collection is my BB58

Their prices are a joke based on what you're getting and after watching a few reviews, their quality control is severely lacking. I was set to buy one and now I don't think that'll happen. I'm so disappointed. Was totally ready to spend the money until I saw how bad the quality is.
